Running from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon and Washington, the 2665 mile PCT meanders from the SoCal desert to the Alpine Mountains in Yosemite to the rainy forests in the North Cascades. We're attempting to thru-hike the PCT during the small window of time that the entire trail is typically passable from May-October. Though a seemingly huge undertaking and perhaps a bit out of the ordinary, it's just walking after all.

The rain brings the woods to life as these 6+ inch slugs littered the trail. That slug is next to my shoe, a size 13.
a banana slug! Those are the good guys! They're native critters that live in the woods and do not eat the plants in people's yards. The disgusting, invasive European black slug is the pest - the bad guy. I am not making that up, I'm a native born Washingtonian (also a rare creature). Thanks for taking the time to blog so that I can read something wonderful while on break from pushing papers at my pencil neck job. - Susan
